Norwich City to swoop for 2. Bundesliga winger: A bargain for £1.7million? 1

The Sun have reported that Norwich City have placed a bid of £1.7million to sign Eintracht Braunschweig winger, Onel Hernandez. Apart from the Canaries, Huddersfield Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested in making him sign over the dotted line. The youngster is keen to taste English football, thus alerting the English clubs.

Norwich City are 13th in the league table with 37 points from 28 games. If they are want to pose a strong challenge for a top-six finish, they must up the ante and start producing consistent results. To do that, they need a more balanced squad, so the need to add fresh faces in the ongoing transfer window is imperative.

The Canaries recently sanctioned the exit of Alex Pritchard who joined Huddersfield in the Premier League for £11.9million. One of the major issues for Farke’s side this season has been the lack of quality or exuberance in the wide areas. Josh Murphy and Marley Watkins have struggled to make their presence felt so far this season, which has really made them look toothless on the flanks.

Yanic Wildschut has also failed to add any sort of X-factor and thus, signing a new winger holds paramount importance at the moment. Hernandez would be quite a notable addition. The Cuba-born winger is excellent at dribbling the ball and has the burst of pace to stretch defences on the wide areas.

So far this season, he has started in 13 games and made four substitute appearances, scoring once and assisting twice in the process.

Hernandez is more than a decent crosser of the ball, constantly tries to breach the opposition defence and his movement on and off the ball has helped Eintracht Braunschweig in stretching opposition defences. He is a smart reader of the game and is often tests opposition goalkeepers with his fierce shots from the wide areas.

However, it has to be noted that he lacks the experience of English football and fingers have been pointed at him, time and again, regarding the lack of defensive contributions.

At 24, it is perhaps time for him to move elsewhere after developing well in Germany. He had spells with the Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg II sides and after doing well with Braunschweig, the time is right to test himself in the Championship.
