Transfer story

As per latest reports by Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen. Although the defending Eredivisie champions have already rejected two bids from the Premier League outfit, the Magpies could return with another bid.

The Magpies will have to meet Feyenoord’s asking price of 20 million pounds for the Dane if they want to add him to their squad. Rafa Benitez’s side have lacked someone with the quality to score goals consistently, so we get the feeling they could push till the end to sign Jorgensen.

Jorgensen – fact file

Jorgensen started his senior career with Akademisk Boldklub and was then roped in by Bayer Leverkusen. After loan spells with FC Kaiserslautern and Copenhagen, the Danish forward made a permanent move to Copenhagen. He excelled there, which prompted Feyenoord to take a punt on him.

In his first season at Feyenoord, he managed to score 21 goals in 32 games and led the club to the Eredivisie title. While the players haven’t been able to replicate their success this season, Jorgensen has still mustered 7 goals in 15 league games; a decent soring ratio.

Attributes

The 27-year-old, over the course of his career, has proven himself to be a reliable goal-getter and no wonder Rafael Benitez has put him on his radar. Jorgensen isn’t your average poacher in the box; he is adept at holding the ball and could be a good option to have on the counter. His finishing is pretty strong, naturally so, considering he scored a ton of goals last season.

Benitez’s side aren’t that good at keeping the ball, but Jorgenson’s presence could help. His passing stats are impressive – an accuracy of 76.8% — which could go a long way in establishing a good chemistry with the likes of Merino and Hayden.

A signing Newcastle need desperately

Newcastle United need to avoid relegation and must beef up their arsenal in order to improve the quality of their side, particularly their striking department.

They are just a solitary point above the dropout zone and can’t afford to mess about. Jorgensen is one of the finest strikers in Dutch football at the moment and signing him would be a massive statement.
