Manchester City Amongst Clubs Who Should Make A Move For Liverpool Midfield Ace

Emre Can

Emre Can is expected to start in midfield

Juventus’ general manager Beppe Marotta has admitted that their pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Emre Can might not be as straight-forward and according to reports, the midfielder is unlikely to join the Italian champions next season.

The German International is apparently undergoing talks with Liverpool, regarding a potential contract extension while several other clubs are also starting to show interest in the 24-year-old midfielder.

In this article, we will talk about three clubs who should make a move for Emre Can.

Manchester City

Premier League leaders Manchester City have been in sublime form this season. Having lost only one game so far, the Sky Blues are currently destined for their third Premier League title in the span of seven years.

However, head coach Pep Guardiola will look to make some amendments in his squad next summer, despite their flawless performances this season.

Particularly in the defensive midfield position, where they currently have only one recognised CDM available(aside from ageing Yaya Toure) in the shape of Fernandinho. The Brazilian midfielder has been rock solid this term and has recently signed a new contract extension with Manchester City.

However, at the age of 32, the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder is entering the final phase of his career, meaning Emre Can could prove to be a handy long-term replacement for the Brazilian International.

Arsenal

Following the departure of defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin, Arsenal could be looking for a direct replacement for the Frenchman.

Head coach Arsene Wenger has already insisted that the Gunners will continue their spending spree in the January transfer window and Emre Can could be an ideal buy for the London giants.

The German International has showcased his quality with Liverpool, in the past. His defensive solidity coupled with his ability to take part in the build-up play is tailor-made for Arsenal’s playing philosophy under Arsene Wenger. Furthermore, the 24-year-old is available for free next summer, which could make him one of the bargains of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund

Last but not the least, it is Borussia Dortmund who can definitely use someone like Emre Can in their midfield department next summer.

The Black and Yellows have suffered a lot this season, largely due to their fragile midfield. While Julian Weigl is by no means an average midfielder, the young German still lacks the strength to dominate the opposing midfielders and that’s where Emre Can comes into play.

The former Bayern midfielder can act as an enforcer for Borussia Dortmund while the likes of Julian Weigl and Mario Gotze can keep things ticking in the creative department.

Overall, it will be interesting to see how Emre Can’s transfer saga takes shape in the coming weeks.
