Arsenal Close In On £53m Rated Bundesliga Star: Can He Turn Around The Season For The Gunners?

A couple of long-standing transfer stories seem to have moved ahead at the same time. According to latest reports, Manchester United have agreed on personal terms with Alexis Sanchez. The player has agreed on a 4 and a half year contract worth £14m after tax.

And at the same time, Arsenal seem to have made rapid progress in their chase of Aubameyang as reports state that the Gabon International’s agent and his father have jetted into London to get the transfer over the line in what is understood to be a £53m deal.

The relationship between Aubameyang and his current club has not been a healthy one of late. Last weekend, the Gabon international was kept out the team due to disciplinary reasons and it has to be noted that it was his third internal suspension in just over twelve months and it is understood that the Aubameyang has told the club that he won’t be coming back after the incident.

On the other hand, Arsenal are really struggling, having been dumped out of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest and they lost to Bournemouth in their last league fixture, which really has dented their credentials of finishing inside the top-four. Wenger’s side are currently placed at the 6th spot in the league standings with 39 points from 23 games and are trailing 4th placed Chelsea by 8 points, which in truth looks insurmountable unless one of the clubs above them have a meltdown which seems unlikely at this stage.

Alexandre Lacazette has been bereft of his cutting edge up front lately and is arguably finding it difficult to acclimatize with the animosity that English football is offering. Lacazette has failed to find the back of the net in his last eight Premier League games and the lack of goals from the Frenchman is becoming a major cause of concern. However, Aubameyang has had a dazzling season so far in the German Bundesliga once again.

The 28-year-old has smashed 13 goals and has registered 3 assists in 15 appearances in the German top-flight and has also scored 4 goals in 6 outings in the Champions League. He is one of the fastest forwards around and his finishing technique is quite exemplary. Besides, he can hold the ball really well in the final third, something which needs to be done in English football and considering his experience, he would be a shrewd replacement for Sanchez.
