Huddersfield Town have commenced their season in the Premier League in a spectacular fashion, having bagged a couple of commendable wins in as many games. The Terriers got themselves promoted to the English top division after excelling beyond expectations and proving the football fraternity wrong.
They managed their promotion by earning a playoff spot and eventually defeating Reading in the nail-biting penalty shootout in the final of the Championship playoffs last season. Under the tutelage of David Wagner, Huddersfield Town have already secured 6 points, courtesy their victories against Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.
It is always riveting as well as intriguing to see the newcomers creating a buzz after their promotion. Ensuring that they refrain themselves from falling into the clutches of the relegation zone would be their first and foremost target and such productive outputs would enable them in jotting results which would better the yardsticks they have set.
Wagner has been absolutely busy and shrewd in chalking the right deals in the ongoing summer transfer window. The former Borussia Dortmund II manager has already secured the signatures of as many as ten new signings including the likes of Aaron Mooy, Steve Mounie, Tom Ince, Scott Malone and Zanka to name a few.
After a wait of 45 years, they are finally plying their trade in the top flight and are apparently plotting a bid of £3million in order to bring Sochaux’s defender Mickael Alphonse to the John Smith’s Stadium before the summer transfer window shuts down, as per one of the latest reports by The Sun.
Alphonse is being targeted by Wagner in order to cultivate more depth in his side and to introduce the element of competition with their skipper Tommy Smith for the right-back slot. Huddersfield Town were earlier interested to sign Barnsley’s right-back Andy Yiadom.
But the deal failed to cross the line and thus, they are now in the contemplative stage of signing Alphonse. The 28-year-old was voted as the best right-back in Ligue 2 last season and it goes without saying that Wagner’s interest to acquire his services makes perfect sense.
Although Sochaux have no intention to sell Alphonse at this stroke of hour, the financial muscle possessed by the Premier League outfit might have the last laugh as a bid of £3million would be too hard to resist for the French side. Nonetheless, a move to Huddersfield Town might appeal the Frenchman, considering the lucre and limelight it has on offer.
