Transfer Story
Newcastle United are apparently contemplating a move for the Manchester City outcast goalie Willy Caballero. Both Willy Caballero and Claudio Bravo have produced average performances for City in the past season, with the 35-year-old agreeing to leave City in the summer.
With Manchester City having signed Benfica starlet Ederson, the 35-year-old was considered to be surplus to City’s requirements by Pep and Caballero is now ready to test new waters. Having good experience of playing in Premier League, Newcastle’s interest in the Argentine veteran should come as no shock.
Rafa is already planning for a busy transfer market to complete a full-fledged overhaul and re-shuffle of his squad as he eyes for more than Premier League survival.
As the possible reunion of Rafa and his former goalkeeper at Liverpool, Pepe Reina, is on the verge of a breakdown with Napoli apparently bargaining more than Rafa’s budget, the Spaniard is eyeing for a quick move to grasp the service of Caballero.
Let’s take a look at the stats of the Argentine.
Player Stats
The player has only featured 17 times in the Premier League and 5 times in the Champions League for the Sky Blues in the past season accumulating a total of 1844 mins on the field.
In his limited stint in between the sticks with City, he has still managed to keep 6 clean sheets.
Also in his 17 appearances for the club, City has lost only 1 match, showcasing the fact that although on the wrong side of 30, the veteran still has it in him to produce quality skills on the field.
Making a total of 31 saves and 13 sweeper clearances, the player is quite adept at dealing with threats early inside the box.

What’ll he offer the Club?
Having experience of playing in the top tier of English football, the Argentine could provide the Newcastle players with good insight and expertise of playing in the league, many of whom would be a first time player in the Premier League.
Although the player has produced an average performance with City this season, it was mainly being suspected due to the irregular and lack of game time at City. It is believed that a string of consistency and game time on the pitch would surely bring out the best of the veteran.
Also costing virtually nothing, Caballero might provide the Magpies with the stability and consistency that Rafa needs at the back. Seeing his shot-stopping techniques and aggressive charge on oncoming threats, the Argentine does pose a stellar figure at the back.
A good acquisition for Rafa, definitely.
