Transfer Story
Ousmane Dembele has apparently caught the attention of Pep Guardiola, who seems to be inclined on bringing the 20-year-old from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City by beating his former side Barcelona. The talented youngster has already made himself a fan-favourite at the Signal Iduna Park and has shown impressive temperament and composure up front with his stunning finishing and creativity.
Guardiola will leave no stone unturned in making his team formidable for the upcoming season and is keen to make a young exuberant front attacking pair line up of Gabriel Jesus and Ousmané Dembele. The hype will be real at Etihad, with the prospect of the aforementioned trio who can rip apart any defence with their ability.
The young Frenchman is apparently tied to BVB till 2021 and with 4 years remaining on his contract, the Dortmund officials are sure to play hardball while selling their young talisman but with the Sky Blues stupendous transfer war chest, anything could be possible.
Player Stats
The 20-year-old made 32 first team starts in 47 appearances for his club scoring 10 goals and providing 18 assists, stats admirable for such a young talent.
The player also has a pass success rate of 68.7%, certainly an area that the Frenchman needs to improve on.
The French youngster has made 65 key passes for his team which goes to show the player’s creativity and vision upfront.
The fleet-footed youngster has 2.1 shots per game and is known for his strong dribbling and quick feet in the final third.
The weaknesses of the Frenchman lies in his selfishness and getting rid of the ball when a teammate is in a better position. His lack of defensive awareness is also something that has been criticised.
Neither of the above qualities is something to be worried about as the player has the potential and the time to rectify his demerits and be better in the coming years. (Stats via WhoScored).
What’ll he offer the Club?
Although much to learn before becoming a complete forward, Dembele could still potentially pair up beside Jesus up front and provide the Sky Blues with lethal pace and creativity up front. The switching qualities both the youngsters have will mean they will be tough to mark and would be a nightmare to play against on any day.
With Pep at the helm, one can also see Dembele’s development and growth as a total football player. The deal will require a heavy chunk of money and a bit of push from club officials but still would be worth it.
Certainly, a prospect that Guardiola would rue losing to other European heavyweights.
