Newcastle United Need To Splash £20m For This Premier League Ace: Why Benitez Shouldn't Hesitate 1

Transfer Story

Recent reports claim that Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez is presently looking for fresh re-enforcement to his Championship winning squad, with the latest of them linking Everton midfielder James McCarthy to the Magpies.

The 26-year-old, Republic of Ireland international, endured a tough season with the Toffees this year, which saw him mostly sidelined with injuries and fitness issues.

Although Koeman had recently stated that McCarthy does have a future in the Club, it is said that club hierarchy is unhappy with the player’s frequent injuries and fitness issues.

Nonetheless, the player’s current contract with the Goodison Park expires on 2020, and with 3 years left on his contract, the Toffees are looking to offload the midfielder at a price of £20m.

Let us have a look at the stats of the Irishman:-

James McCarthy – Player Stats

The above stats does go to show that the Irishman not only has the talent and creativity to create chances but is also well aware of defensive techniques.

The fact that he has not been able to showcase his full potential this summer has made many to believe the player’s power is on the wane but seeing the stats above, it would be foolish to conclude anything too early.

What’ll he bring to the Club?

Even in his short stint this season, he impressed quite a few with his calmness, composure and passing ability in the midfield. Rafa would be looking forward to strengthening his midfield and McCarthy would be an exquisite acquisition, as he would instil both experience and flair in the midfield.

Everyone knows the physical demands of English Football and how tough the Premier League is, so it would only be logical for Rafa to add quality options to the team.

McCarthy would provide that extra bit of composure and vision in the midfield that the Spaniard might need to ensure a smooth sail in the Premier League.

Worth the Money?

At £20m, being only 26 years of age it would be a good investment for the Magpies. We all know McCarthy’s true capability and if Rafa manages to tap into the Irishman’s potential it might just prove to be one of the stellar signings of the summer.

Other than his frequent injuries there are no further blemishes to the Irishman’s record that should stop Rafa from acquiring the young talent. Only time will tell where the Ireland international plays next season.
