Everton and Manchester City amongst three possible destinations for this incredible shot-stopper

Everton

The two positives from Sunderland’s disastrous league campaign can be said to be the form of Jermain Defoe and Jordan Pickford. The sad part for the Black Cats is that both of these talented players probably won’t be playing for them when they start their life in the Championship.

Pickford, a local Sunderland lad, has been one of the best custodians in the Premier League and was nominated for the PFA young player of the year award.

Naturally, the big clubs will be circling around the Stadium of Light and now with the Black Cats relegated, Pickford will be available on a cut-price deal. Sunderland wanted around £25 million for their valuable player but that won’t be the case anymore as £17 million is the reduced value according to rumours.

On that note, let’s take a look at the three realistic destinations for Jordan Pickford in the summer:

#1 Everton

The Toffees have struggled defensively which has cost them a go at the top six places this season. A major reason for that has been the form of both of their goalkeepers – Maarten Stekelenburg and Joel Robles.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman will be keen on adding a world class to his team and Pickford has proved that he can go a long way in his career. The money won’t be much of a worry for Everton and at the moment, they look the most realistic destination for the youngster.

#2 Leicester City

With Kasper Schmeichel’s heroics garnering interest from the Manchester clubs, last season’s Champions will need a goalkeeper who can effectively replace the Dane. Jordan Pickford can be an inspired buy who can take up the mantle from Schmeichel and help the Foxes to a top 10 finish next season.

This move can also be used as a springboard by Pickford in the future because a move to the biggest clubs in England where he might not be the number one right now will be a calamity for his progress.

#3 Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s side is the only realistic top six side which can provide a starting berth to Pickford at the moment. Claudio Bravo and Willy Caballero have been below par and a goalkeeper will be a top priority for Manchester City.

To top it with a homegrown English player would be music to the ears of City’s management as they often fall short of making up numbers in the English players’ department. Pickford is great with ball distribution and can become a force to reckon with under the management of Guardiola.
