Too Many Passive Performances: Chelsea Players Rated From Their Defeat To Manchester United 1

Chelsea faced a bit of hindrance in their pursuit of the title after they slumped to a 2-0 loss at the hands of Manchester United at the Old Trafford. The Blues conceded early in the game as Rashford latched on to a shot and put it past Begovic in the 7th minute itself.

Chelsea were completely outplayed and couldn’t progress past the Manchester United backline, impeded quite easily by Manchester United’s tight defence. To make the matters worse for the Blues, they conceded again in the 49th minute. Chelsea couldn’t make a comeback and succumbed to a 2-0 loss. Below are Chelsea’s player ratings.

Begovic

Rating: 6.5

Begovic perhaps could have done something to stop the first goal from going in.

Kurt Zouma

Rating: 6.5

Zouma looked a bit rusty at the back and struggled to deal with United’s good first touch play.

David Luiz

Rating: 6

Luiz was culpable for letting Manchester United get through with ease. He also could have done better during United’s first goal and on a number of other occasions. He also failed to deal with Rashford’s pace and intelligence throughout the game.

Gary Cahill

Rating: 6.5

Cahill too struggled at the back, failing to keep things tight at the back.

Victor Moses

Rating: 6.5

Moses struggled offensively and failed to really make an impact on the game, losing the ball quite easily on a few occasions. He also couldn’t handle Ashley Young.

N’Golo Kanté

Rating: 7

Kanté made a few good tackles and intercepted a few times but he was often outplayed by his opposite number Fellaini.

Nemanja Matic

Rating: 7.5

Matic failed to keep Marouane Fellaini’s and Ander Herrera quiet but made a few good tackles to retrieve possession.

Cesar Azpilicueta

Rating: 7

His lack of offensive involvement except the last few minutes was highlighted throughout the game.

Pedro

Rating: 6.5

Pedro was guilty of giving the ball away a lot of times and this game exposed his one-dimensional play.

Eden Hazard

Rating: 6.5

Hazard failed to make any impact and was completely undone by Ander Herrera who didn’t give him any space.

Diego Costa

Rating: 6.5

Costa showed a lot of aggression but failed to channel that aggression in the right manner and didn’t look at all like scoring.

Substitutes

Cesc Fabregas

Rating: 6.5

Fabregas failed to change the texture of the game.

Willian

Rating: 6.5

Willian offered too little to change the game around.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Rating: N/A

Loftus-Cheek played too little to warrant a rating
