As per one of the latest reports by The Sun, Leeds United are pursuing West Ham United’s outcast, Jordan Hugill, for a loan swoop. However, the Whites are set to be challenged by their Championship rivals, Queens Park Rangers, as the London based outfit are also monitoring Hugill’s situation at the London Stadium very closely.
Hugill left the ranks of Preston North End for £10million in the January transfer window after making a substantial amount of impact there. Prior to his move to the armoury of the Hammers, the 26-year-old scored 8 goals and registered an assist in 27 outings in the Championship. He moved to the Premier League with the tag of a proven goal-getter in the English second division but things haven’t gone in his favour ever since.
He was handed merely 3 appearances after his move to the Premier League outfit and all of them were off the bench. The striker desperately needs to get regular game time on the pitch and staying with West Ham United in the 2018-19 campaign might have detrimental effects on his career. Thus, a loan spell with Leeds United should be a tempting option for him.
The Yorkshire based side are breathing a new life under the stewardship of Marcelo Bielsa after a terrible season under Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom. Bielsa is introducing reformatory actions at the club and is taking the fitness levels of his players very seriously. Apart from that, he is keenly assessing the gettable players in the transfer market and Hugill seems to be a good choice at the onset.
The Englishman has plenty of experience of Championship and should be a healthy addition to Leeds United. The Peacocks were blunt on most of the occasions in their attacking endeavours last season and that needs to change under Bielsa. The likes of Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Jay-Roy Grot and Pawel Cibicki flattered to deceive and there is no denying that they need a consistent scorer to enhance their chances of promotion.
Hugill is a strong attacker and being good in the air is one of his strongest suits. He is clinical and knows exactly where the goal is. Besides, he creates chances for his teammates as well and links up in a decent fashion. He has endured some torrid months of late but if he gets the nod of confidence from the manager under whom he plays next season, he can be a fearsome attacker once again.
