Crystal Palace Mulling Over A Swap Deal For Bundesliga Star: A No-brainer For Roy?

According to German news outlet SportBILD, Borussia Dortmund are prepared to offer Andre Schurrle to Premier League club Crystal Palace in an attempt to sign attacker Wilfried Zaha this summer. The former Manchester United starlet has been a subject of some major transfer speculation over the past 12 months but could cost an astronomical fee with Palace reluctant to let go of their prized asset.

However, it an attempt to sweeten the deal the German giants are ready to offer World Champion Andre Schurrle as part of the player plus cash deal. It is believed that Palace have a keen interest in the former Chelsea star and as a result of which, Dortmund are ready to use him as a makeweight as they aim to lure Zaha to Germany this summer.

Schurrle, 27, has fallen out of favour at Borussia Dortmund after making a big-money move from Wolfsburg in 2016. During his two years with the club, the attacker has featured in just over 50 games in all competition, scoring only eight goals. He has been on the chopping block under the leadership of former managers in Peter Bosz and Peter Stoger and the newly appointed Lucien Favre is likely to follow suit.

Thus, a move away from the Signal Iduna Park will be a prudent move for the 27-year-old as he aims to resurrect his career. And a transfer back to England could be a logical one, with Crystal Palace showing keen interest.

Schurrle did manage to make an impression during his time at Chelsea, where he scored 14 goals in 65 games and bagged a Premier League title in 2015. His addition to Crystal Palace, will thus, revitalize their attack next season following a disappointing campaign from star striker Christian Benteke amongst many others.

Borussia Dortmund, on the other hand, will be the definite winners of this deal. Although the Bundesliga giants will have to pay around 30 million euros along with Schurrle to secure Zaha’s services, even then it would prove to be a bargain deal for the Black and Yellows.

Dortmund are in desperate need of a new striker before the start of the new campaign with Michy Batshuayi unlikely to return to Ruhrpott this summer. And it is believed that new coach Lucien Favre has identified Wilfried Zaha as the perfect candidate to solve his side’s problems in the goal-scoring department.

As for Schurrle, his departure will be a good riddance for the Bundesliga giants with the player failing to settle properly. But it remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old will manage to resurrect his career in the Premier League, should he move to Crystal Palace this summer.
