According to latest reports from Transfermarketweb, Roma’s young goalkeeping sensation Matteo Cardinali has been a subject of some serious transfer speculation in recent weeks. The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest up and coming goalkeeping talents, who has attracted the interest of a host of top clubs around Europe and the list includes Liverpool.
The Merseyside giants are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, following the disappointing performances of their current crop of keepers in Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet. Karius, in particular, made a couple of huge errors in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid last season.
And if reports are to believed, the Reds are currently scouting Matteo Cardinali, who is also courted by league rivals Arsenal. In fact, RB Salzburg, who act as a feeder club to German giants RB Leipzig, are also believed to be interested in the 17-year-old.
Even though Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Roma’s first choice keeper Alisson Becker, Real Madrid and Chelsea are reportedly in pole position to hi-jack their deal for the Brazilian shot-stopper which has forced the Merseysiders to look at other viable targets in the market this summer.
Matteo Cardinali, in this case, has emerged as a key target for the Reds as they attempt to solidify their goalkeeping department for next season. The 17-year-old has hugely impressed with his performances in the youth leagues and has been a huge part of Roma’s under-17 squad. He helped his team win the highly coveted Italian U-17 Supercoppa last season, even though he didn’t feature as his side comfortably beat Pordenone Giovanili. In addition, Cardinali has also featured for his country in the U-17 and U-16 level.
But that being said, it goes without saying that Matteo Cardinali is not yet ready for first-team action, despite his incredible record in the youth leagues. Having only turned 17 on Thursday, the youngster still has a lot of room to improve and most importantly, he needs to bag more experience in order to find success at the highest level of football.
As for Liverpool, the addition of this highly talented goalkeeper could be a wise move considering the fact that the youngster boasts of a lot of potential and could certainly turn out to be a huge asset for the club in the near future.
However, the Reds could face stiff competition for Matteo Cardinali, especially with the likes of Arsenal and RB Salzburg also vying for his services.
