According to recent reports from Spanish publication Don Balon, Premier League giants Manchester United have reignited their interest in Real Madrid superstar Toni Kroos as they attempt to strengthen their midfield for next season.
Head coach Jose Mourinho has repeatedly stressed the need for a quality midfielder throughout the course of this season and is finally ready to make an audacious effort to sign the hugely rated midfielder this summer.
Highly regarded as one of the best midfielders in world football, if not the best, Toni Kroos is an absolute beauty when it comes to the midfield department. Since making his move from Bayern in the summer of 2014, the German international has found relentless success with Los Blancos, winning a host of silverware, including two back to back Champions League titles amongst many others.
The 28-year-old has made nearly 200 professional appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions. The German midfielder has played a critical role in Real Madrid’s unprecedented success in recent seasons, where they, aside from winning two back to back Champions League titles, have also secured a La Liga title last season.
However, that being said, Toni Kroos’ performance in the first half of the season had raised a lot of questions regarding his form. With the 28-year-old often failing to find the same rhythm in midfield, which coincided with the dramatic fall of Real Madrid in La Liga this season, there were even rumours which suggested a possible way out of Bernabeu in this upcoming transfer window.
Although that proposition is highly unlikely this summer, largely due to Madrid’s terrific form in the second half of the season, especially in the Champions League, Manchester United will definitely remain the favourites, should Toni Kroos ever plan to leave the Bernabeu.
Toni Kroos’ addition to Manchester United could solve a number of problems for the Red Devils in midfield. First and foremost, the German international can quickly resolve the Paul Pogba issue. His partnership with Nemanja Matic in the central defensive midfield position can finally allow the French superstar to start in an advanced position. But most importantly, the former Bayern Munich star can also be an excellent replacement for star midfielder Michael Carrick, who hung up his boots at the end of the season.
Kroos’ current contract with Real Madrid expires in 2022, meaning he will cost a fortune. However, considering Manchester United’s huge financial backing, the funding of the high-profile transfer shouldn’t be a big problem for the Red Devils with some reports even suggesting that the 28-year-old would be open to a move to Old Trafford this summer.
