As per one of the latest reports by The Telegraph, Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen to sign Willy Boly permanently in the summer. Wolves secured their promotion to the Premier League without kicking a ball on Saturday after Brentford managed a draw against Fulham and it seems that Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to keep his prized assets at the Molineux Stadium.
Wolves are currently perched at the top of the Championship after their handsome 2-0 win over Birmingham City on Sunday and now they need just one point to clinch the English second division silverware. Under the tutelage of Espirito Santo, the players really stepped up to the occasion and there is no denying that they thoroughly deserve all the plaudits they are garnering for their performance.
The resilience offered by Wolves’ defensive line has been one of the main reasons for their uplift this season. In the process, Willy Boly has played an instrumental role after his loan move from Porto in the summer. Apparently, Wolves are set to fork out £10million in the summer to sign him on a long-term deal and it will make perfect sense if they do so.
The Frenchman emerged through the youth ranks of Auxerre and after being elevated to Auxerre’s B side, he represented the French outfit’s first-team for quite some time before being prised away by Braga. After impressing for the Portuguese side, he was lured to the ranks of Porto but he couldn’t cement his place in their senior side and eventually moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan.
Boly has been rock-solid at the back this season and has been serially used by the Portuguese gaffer in his starting line-up. Tall, strong and commanding at the back, the 27-year-old has been an imposing figure more often than not and has managed to keep opposition attackers at bay. In 34 league appearances so far this season, Boly has made 2.3 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, 5.6 clearances and 0.5 blocks per game on an average.
Besides, he has found the back of the net on 3 occasions and has 2 assists to his name as well. He is good in the air, makes astute tackles and is an excellent reader of the game. Although he lacks the experience of Premier League, he has shown this season that he certainly has the potential to thrive against the elite clubs of England and signing him permanently will be a shrewd piece of business by Wolves.
