Manchester United Willing To Let Spanish Superstar Leave In A Swap Deal: Makes Sense?

In one of the most talked about rumours of the month, Spanish news outfit Don Balon claim that Jose Mourinho and Manchester United are finally willing to let Spanish midfielder David de Gea switch to Bernabeu this summer. But the Portuguese tactician wants star midfielder Isco as a part of the deal for De Gea.

The story claims that Isco is also looking to quit Real Madrid in search of first-team football and United want to use this to land him for the next season. Does this move make any sense?

Can United Lose De Gea?

Arguably one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe at the moment, De Gea is easily the most consistent player at Old Trafford for more than two years now. He has single-handedly won them games in the past as well as in this season and is integral to United’s chances in Europe.

He has once again been in sublime form, putting in some excellent performances and at just 27, he is only going to get better and is heading towards a legendary status. He is hard to replace but Manchester United are already looking at Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter-Stegen as a replacement and if they can land the German, or someone of that calibre, De Gea’s loss can be dealt with.

However, if United struggle to find a top-class replacement, letting De Gea go, in whatever circumstances, could be a devastating blow for the Red Devils.

Will Isco Cover That Loss?

They can take solace from the fact that they can land one of the best midfielders in Europe in the potential deal involving De Gea. With a €700m release clause in his contract, Isco is a crucial part of the squad under Zinedine Zidane but lack of playing time has seen him linked with an exit extensively.

If United manage to land him, Mourinho can play a 4-3-3 system, which will not only give Paul Pogba his preferred role but will also make United’s midfield one of the finest in Europe.

Isco and Pogba can play either side of a player of Nemanja Matic’s calibre and both players have the better part of their careers ahead of them and can easily establish a legacy.

Does This Deal Make Any Sense?

For starters, United should do all it takes to land Isco as the Spaniard can make a huge difference in the current United side which is lacking any kind of flair. Mourinho will play around his midfield duo, which will surely get the best out of the entire team, making this move a positive one.

But a lot depends on how they replace De Gea. The Spaniard is almost irreplaceable and though the likes of Jan Oblak, Alisson Becker and ter-Stegen are decent options, United should make sure that they are in pole position to land one of those stars before they can even start thinking about letting De Gea leave.

This will be a bold move by Mourinho but could be a genuine game-changer in the English top flight. But do you think United will be in a stronger position if they get this deal done?
