Manchester City and Manchester United went at it hammer and tongs during the last few months but in the end, Pep Guardiola’s side just had too much quality for Jose Mourinho’s side. Though the season is nearing its end, the battle is set to continue off the pitch as the transfer window will soon reopen, allowing United to close the quality gap or for City to try and improve their squad further.
Considering the style of the two managers, they are unlikely to go after the same player too often. However, one player who has caught the attention of both the managers is Napoli’s Jorginho.
A report by the Sun said the midfielder is being courted by both the Manchester clubs but would ‘favour’ a move to City.
A blow to United if City sign Jorginho
Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli might once again fail in their title bid this season, but there is no denying that the team has some classy players. Jorginho can not only break play but is a brilliant controller of the game and could be the ideal long-term replacement for Fernandinho who is in his 30s.
United will be without Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini next season, so they too are after a player for that position and the Italian could have been a smashing addition. If the report is to be believed, it’s already Pep 1-0 Jose ahead of next season!
The 26-year old has made 28 apprerances so far this season and has mustered impressive stats in midfield. He averages 1.9 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game in the Serie A and has a pass accuracy of 89.4% which shows how disciplined he is when it comes to spraying the ball. He isn;t afraid to get forward and has completed 1.5 key passes in the final third as well. Not bad, huh?
