Liverpool eyeing a move for Bundesliga winner: Just the player they need?

You’d be wrong to say Liverpool have punched above their weight this season. The Reds have a quality frontline and the midfield has often defied the odds and silenced critics to perform well in the big games. The defence was a problem but Jurgen Klopp seems to have filled a massive hole with the signing of Virgil van Dijk who has improved the unit defensively.

The upcoming transfer window will be an interesting one for Liverpool. While another defender is a must for the depth and quality of the squad, Liverpool need a midfield general as well. Though Gini Wijnaldum has done well when he has been called upon, he lacks the consistency you need to challenge for the league title. Same is the case with Jordan Henderson.

In a bid to add more quality, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich midfield star Arturo Vidal. The 30-year old’s contract expires in the summer of 2019 and as Bayern already have a pretty stocked up midfield, the ageing Chilean could leave the club.

Vidal – What will he add to Liverpool?

He’s the perfect player for Jurgen Klopp. Considering his style, he’d be the best option in a two-man midfield pivot. Liverpool play a 4-3-3 but there is room for the Chilean because he covers a lot of ground and can pick a pass, dribble and shoot; abilities Klopp would love to have while pressing and playing on the counter.

So far this season, Vidal has had injury issues which have resulted in just 17 starts for the club. However, he has shown this season that he still has the same drive and ability he did a few years ago. Despite playing in a more deeper role, he has mustered at least one key pass every game and has an impressive passing accuracy of 88.5% in the league.

Liverpool will play a lot of games next season as well and will need a good squad to choose from. With Emre Can likely to leave, they’ll need more numbers in the midfield and Vidal will add the winning mentality at the centre.

He had a successful spell at Juventus before moving to Bayern. His next step is likely to be the Premier league as he pushes his body one last time to have another successful spell in a different league.
