West Ham United keen on signing England international: Is he the boost they need?

Jack Wilshere’s future at Arsenal beyond the ongoing campaign is up in the air. Wilshere’s contract with the north London based outfit is set to expire at the end of this season and the club haven’t been able to convince him to extend his contract, which really makes the situation a complicated one.

Reports have emerged stating that the Gunners are asking the midfielder to take a 25% pay cut on his current wages of £125,000 but so far, he has refused to do the same. Wilshere is finally getting back to his best once again after his lengthy injury spells and is expected to travel to Russia to represent England in the World Cup which commences later this year.

There is no denying that some top clubs will be aiming to lure the English international out of the Emirates Stadium in the summer. As per latest reports by Daily Star, West Ham United are closely monitoring him, alongside AC Milan, Juventus and Everton. The Toffees have even offered Wilshere a humungous £8million signing on fee if he moves to Goodison Park.

Thus, it goes without saying that it would not be easy for West Ham United to make Wilshere sign on the dotted line. But if they do, he’d be one hell of an addition. The 26-year-old is well acquainted with English football. He has been with Arsenal for around two decades, having emerged through their youth academy.

He had a loan spell at Bolton Wanderers in the early stages of his career and last season, his loan spell with Bournemouth yielded substantial dividends for him. Capable of playing as a central defensive midfielder, central midfielder as well as a central attacking midfielder, Wilshere is an astute passer of the ball, dribbles the ball well and can provide the creative edge to West Ham if he signs for them.

So far this season, he has made 31 appearances across all competitions and has scored 2 goals. Given the plethora of midfielders Arsene Wenger has at his disposal, it isn’t easy to find regular game time but Wilshere has been performing well and has one again gained the trust of Wenger following his bad run with injuries. Nonetheless, he can offer more in the coming seasons and David Moyes would strike gold if West Ham succeed in signing him.
