Leeds United suffered yet another defeat in the Championship, this time at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday, at the Elland Road. Atdhe Nuhiu gave the Owls the lead in the second half, which was nullified by Jay-Roy Grot after he came on for Tom Pearce.
However, Nuhiu’s goal in the closing stage of the game earned the visitors all three points against the Whites. Here is how we rated Paul Heckingbottom’s troops in their performance against Sheffield Wednesday.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell 7/10
Peacock-Farrell made a couple of good saves, one from close quarters and another that was hit from a fair distance, in the first half. He can hardly be blamed for the two goals that Leeds United conceded.
Gaetano Berardi 6/10
There was absolutely no lack of industry from the right-back as he tried to create chances for his teammates and tried to find the back of the net on his own as well.
Pontus Jansson 6/10
The big Swede marshalled the back line with his commanding presence and showcased a lot of resilience today.
Matthew Pennington 6/10
Pennington eliminated a lot of threats that emanated from Sheffield Wednesday’s attackers in what was a busy day at the office.
Tom Pearce 4/10
The left-back was the weak line in the defence of the Whites as he gave away possession far too often and lacked the required pace to gallop forward to help his side offensively.
Eunan O’Kane 6/10
Although the central midfielder might not have engineered anything extraordinary, he did his basics right in the middle of the park and was efficient.
Adam Forshaw 7/10
The former Middlesbrough man showed his class once again. He constantly tried to dictate the tempo of the game, pushed the side forward and halted a lot of attacking endeavours that Sheffield Wednesday started.
Ezgjan Alioski 6/10
Alioski had a really busy game as he tried to get forward whenever possible and worked well with Pablo Hernandez. However, he lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
Pablo Hernandez 8/10
Arguably the best player for Heckingbottom’s side tonight, the Spaniard was hungry to make his presence felt. He created a substantial amount of chances for his teammates, caused trouble for Sheffield Wednesday’s back line and made defensive contributions as well.
Caleb Ekuban 4/10
There is no denying that Ekuban was astute with his movements in the final third but he couldn’t make the most of the opportunities that were handed to him, particularly by Hernandez.
Substitutions
Pierre-Michel Lasogga 6/10
Lasogga replaced Ekuban with around 20 minutes left to play and had a say in Leeds United’s equalizer.
Jay-Roy Grot 6/10
Heckingbottom took off Pearce to place Grot on the pitch and he repaid his manager’s faith by finding the back of the net from close range.
Kalvin Phillips 5/10
Phillips was brought on for O’Kane late in the second half but he couldn’t muster anything of note.
