Should Manchester City Fight To Keep Hold Of Their Argentine Superstar Next Season?

Manchester City have found resounding success in the Premier League this season, leading the table by an astonishing 13 point margin currently.

One of the main reasons behind their dominance has been their world-class attacking unit this season, which has been led by Sergio Aguero.

However, that being said, the Argentine has always been a subject of various transfer rumours over the years and this season has been no different with Real Madrid reported to be strongly interested in his services. The European champions have lacked attacking incision this campaign and coach Zinedine Zidane is willing to splash the cash on a new striker in the coming summer with Sergio Aguero being one of the prime candidates.

Therefore, one would ponder the question – Should Manchester City finally let go of the coveted striker next season?

Sergio Aguero has been a huge asset for the Citizens ever since joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011. The Argentine has an astonishing scoring record in the Premier League, scoring 139 goals in just 202 games. Regardless of Manchester City’s performance in a particular season, Aguero has never failed to score goals consistently for his side.

His performances, over the years, have helped Manchester City win a host of titles, including the Premier League in 2012, where he famously scored the winner against QPR to snatch the title away from Manchester United while his 17 goals in the 2013/14 season were also helpful as Manchester City clinched another title.

However, that being said, Sergio Aguero’s value at Manchester City has taken a slight hit, following the impressive breakout of Brazilian sensation Gabriel Jesus. The young starlet has been the star of Manchester City in the initial stages of this season, scoring ten goals and providing four assists in all competitions.

Furthermore, Sergio Aguero is hugely injury prone, which is clearly evident considering the fact that the Argentine has suffered 11 injury layoffs during his time at the Etihad. Therefore, the Citizens could be tempted to cash in on their revered star striker next summer.

Spanish giants Real Madrid would be willing to spend a fortune on a striker, who has been one of Premier League’s greatest South American players of all time while in Gabriel Jesus, Pep Guardiola’s men have already found someone who can easily replace the Argentine at the Etihad from next season. So to conclude, it may actually be time for Manchester to stop persisting with Sergio Aguero from next season.
