Liverpool Target Experienced English Midfield Ace: Should Klopp Make A Move?

According to recent reports, Liverpool FC are planning to lure Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere. Following the departure of Philippe Coutinho, the Reds are on the lookout for a new midfielder and head coach Jurgen Klopp has reportedly identified Jack Wilshere as one of his prime targets in the coming summer.

The English midfielder will be out of contract this summer, with his current one running out, meaning he could be available on a free transfer at the end of the season. The Gunners have so far been reluctant to extend his contract, despite the player’s initial wish to stay at the Emirates.

Although as per reports, the London giants have offered him a new contract, that comes with a hefty pay-cut. The former Bournemouth midfielder will have to be content with £90,000-a-week wages if he wants to extend his spell at Arsenal.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are pretty much eager to sign a midfielder in their ranks following the sale of Philippe Coutinho.

Even though star midfielder Adam Lallana has just returned from a long injury layoff earlier this year, the Reds still run a bit short in terms of midfield depth, especially with Emre Can being heavily linked with a move to Juventus in the summer.

Therefore, the addition of Jack Wilshere could be a breath of fresh air for the Liverpool faithful. The Arsenal midfielder has shown sparks of his former self in his recent games and is showing a lot of potential, despite having his career marred by injuries.

Not only does he have the talent to make a difference but also the pedigree to thrive in the English top flight. At 26 years of age, Jack Wilshere can still offer a lot in the coming years.

However, that being said, injuries still remain one of his main problems. Wilshere has had to deal with a lot of them during the course of his career and that trend could continue in the future as well. In fact, the midfielder has missed more matches due to injuries than he has actually played, meaning he’s by far one of the most injury-prone players in world football.

Therefore, Liverpool should definitely reconsider their willingness to acquire the services of Jack Wilshere, who, despite showing a lot of promise, remains a gamble, which the club can’t afford to make. There are a number of alternatives available in the market, one of which is PSG’s Javier Pastore, who is highly expected to leave the club next summer.
