Manchester United offered chance to sign Real Madrid forward: Should Jose take the bait?

Manchester United made the biggest transfer of the January transfer window, as they landed Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal this month. Jose Mourinho is still not completely happy with the options at his disposal and may spend on another attacker before the end of the month.

He is sure to spend on one at least before the start of the next season and a name constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford is French striker Karim Benzema.

Benzema Offered To Chelsea And Manchester United:

According to recent reports from Spanish news outfit Dario Gol, Manchester United have been offered a chance to sign Real Madrid star Karim Benzema, by the Spanish club owners. The woeful goalscoring form of the French striker has affected Real Madrid’s chances in the top flight this season and they are looking to use Benzema to try and land Eden Hazard from Chelsea or David de Gea from Manchester United.

Manchester United have a number of exciting options to lead the attack so should they look at Benzema as an option?

Benzema And His Record:

The 31-year old has established himself as one of the most consistent goal scorers in European top flights for more than half a decade now, having scored at least 20 goals in each of the last five seasons. However, he has fallen out of favour under Zinedine Zidane this season, making just 11 La Liga starts and mustering just two goals and three assists in those games.

A strong and dominating presence in the opposition half, Benzema is an old-fashioned striker, who loves to feed off crosses. He has a great touch and presence of mind, which allows him to find space and time for himself in and around the box. He is lethal with the ball at his feet, can turn even the best defenders inside out and has been a genuine match winner for Los Blancos in the last few years.

He has 257 La Liga appearances, 112 Ligue 1 appearances, 98 Champions League appearances and 81 international appearances for France, where he has always scored at a rate of at least a goal every two games.

At 30, he still has enough years to help Manchester United but is he the right man?

Is He The Right Man?

The Red Devils spent big on Romelu Lukaku just this summer and though the Belgian has not been consistent enough, is one of the best strikers in the league at the moment. The likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and now Alexis Sanchez can all play in that role along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is bound to help the Red Devils in the latter part of the season.

So there is little scope for Benzema to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford and Jose Mourinho is better off looking elsewhere for a star name that can help re-establish their dominance in Manchester and in England.
